Description
The Portage County Public Library is hiring for a part-time Library Specialist!  This position is 20 hours per week.
 

Summary of Position:

This position is responsible for a wide variety of library-related tasks that support the activities of the library, including but not limited to customer service activities at all service desks, clerical, material handling, and data entry activities. 

Must relate well with the public, other library staff, volunteers, children, and young adults, be adaptable and flexible.  Basic clerical, office equipment, and computer skills including the Internet required.

The incumbent will maintain rapport with public by responding to their various library-related requests as efficiently and cheerfully as possible.  20 hours/week primarily at 1001 Main Street, Stevens Point; may assist at other county public library sites (Almond, Plover, Rosholt) as scheduled or necessary. May drive library vehicle. This position includes regularly scheduled evening and weekend work. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Library Science classes preferred. 
  • Two years general library experience preferred.
  • Background in reference service in a library or comparable experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of a second language such as Hmong or Spanish is desirable
  • Knowledge of computer software such as Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Access.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
