This position is responsible to perform a variety of routine and complex clerical and administrative duties in keeping official court records, providing support to the Circuit Court, Family Court Commissioner, law enforcement agencies, and all other governmental agencies such as the District Attorney’s office, Child Support, State Public Defender etc. involving the judicial branch of county government. This position also may interact with other courts and municipal jurisdictions. This position will also assist in the administration of the standard operation policies and procedures of the Clerk of Courts per Statute 59.40 and 753.30. This position will assist customers at Clerk’s front counter handling a variety of court paperwork and directing customers to the appropriate agency.
Starting pay is $22.64 / hr
What are the primary job responsibilities?
- Maintain court calendar for cases and schedules; entering court record events and scanning all documents into the WI Court System Circuit Court Access program (CCAP).
- Send notices of pending court actions and dates of trial hearings to attorneys and interested parties.
- Keeping accurate and up-to-date court case files; court calendars; court dates; adjournments; preparing court orders; filing documents as needed and keeping parties and related parties informed; performing daily scanning to keep court files up-to-date; close out case files and handle post judgment paperwork.
- Attend and clerk court hearings by keeping an accurate record of all court proceedings as defined at Wis. Stat. 59.40 (2)(b).
- Works with members of the public in a respectful and helpful manner, handling a variety of complex legal paperwork and understanding the appropriate procedural posture of that paperwork.
- Performs clerical duties; prepare case folders, labels and forms.
- Assists the public in preparing documents for wide variety of court cases, such as occupational licenses, civil injunctions, alcohol assessments, probation questionnaires, family law and other civil action as well and other necessary documents.
- Receipts cash, check or credit card payments at the front counter and also remotely at one’s desk.
- Handling money and performing day-end cash drawer procedure on a daily basis.
What are the education and experience requirements?
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two semesters course work from an accredited vocational, college or technical school in Legal, Business, Public Administration or related field.
- Two years of related work experience in the legal field or interpreting and applying state statutes and Federal laws preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
