Job Title: AmeriCorps Public Health Assistant
Time Requirement: 35 - 40 hours / week, Monday - Friday
Location: Stevens Point
Summary of Position:
This is a part-time, grant-funded position through the Marshfield Clinic AMERICORPS Program. Public Health Assistants play a major role in the health of individuals and communities by helping to raise awareness of public health. They work closely with people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in critical health-related activities such as health screenings, immunizations, health education, or health promotion. Public Health Assistants are dedicated to providing support for their communities to help protect the overall public health. This could include preventing and controlling the spread of disease, conducting research, educating the public, and improving the public health system. They use a variety of methods, including problem solving, communication, advocacy, and data analysis, to meet these goals.
Member Job Duties:
- Providing health information and education to individuals and communities, promoting healthy lifestyles, and participating in health-related events.
- Providing educational presentations in community settings and individually.
- Engaging with community members to identify health needs and promote participation in public health programs.
- Assisting in the implementation of disease prevention and control strategies, including vaccinations and other public health interventions.
- Improving access to health screenings and referrals.
- Providing interpretation and translating services as needed.
- Collecting and maintaining accurate health data.
- Collecting environmental samples.
- Maintaining and updating website.
- Maintaining social media sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited college in a related field or equivalent experience is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Knowledge of public health systems and procedures.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
- Education or experience in operating a computer required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and related software preferred.
- Must be a licensed driver with access to an insured vehicle
