Portage County is accepting applications for the full-time position of Justice Programs Director. This position is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating programs that serve adult and juvenile offenders in order to promote a range of productive and rehabilitative options for use by the criminal justice system.
Summary of Position:
This position exercises independent judgment and initiative in working with offenders through alternative programs, with primary concern for public safety and the reduction of recidivism. This position may provide direct services to offenders as needed to augment existing resources and model research-based practices. It will work closely with justice system partners, including but not limited to, the circuit court judges, jail administration, probation and parole staff, and health and human services as well as other local service providers, and ultimately bring people together to collaborate on accomplishing the goals of the justice program. The employee will also work with and assist elected officials, community leaders, government staff, and the Portage County Justice Coalition (Criminal Justice Coordinating Council) in the evaluations of system-wide justice issues and accomplishing Portage County strategic goals and objectives. Some work assignments will originate from goals outlined by the County Justice Coalition and its work groups, and from justice system partners.
The position is an appointed position per Wisconsin State Statutes 59.17 (2) (br).
The salary range starts at $84,978.80 / yr
What are the minimum requirements?
- Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, planning, or a closely related field such as social work, human services or counseling. Master’s Degree in the field of criminal justice preferred.
- A minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible experience in a criminal justice setting preferred.
- Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) preferred.
- Applied experience in offender programming, and risk and need assessment required.
- Experience in program development and management, and in conducting upper-level administrative duties normally associated with a senior level position preferred.
- Must have valid Driver’s License and access to a private vehicle.
- Any education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the position.
